The aim of the project is the analysis of South Tyrol’s vulnerability towards climate change and extreme meteorological phenomena, as well as the development of interdisciplinary research on provincial level regarding climate change and the effects of such changes.
For the three main research fields (remote sensing, eco-hydrology and tourism) various methods for the detection and evaluation of the climate change impacts has been developed, improved and combined with each other. In a second phase these methods have been applied to case studies of the Province of Bolzano.
The final product of the project is a broad evaluation report on the vulnerability of South Tyrol towards climate change. The report includes not only the results of the case studies, but also the results of surveys between experts and of workshops held in close cooperation with the local administration. The report should be the first step towards the implementation of a broad adaptation strategy of the Province.
The project has been realized by the area Sustainable Development (Institutes for Applied remote Sensing, for Alpine Environment and for Regional Development and Location Management), in close cooperation with the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
