Technology Development
EURAC’s researchers are not only at their desks with their noses buried in textbooks—they use all kinds of different technological devices in their work. They often find themselves creating technology to support their research that becomes the principal or secondary outcome of their project. So the task of the new “Service Department for Technology Development” will be to set up a technology platform service that can provide researchers with key technological expertise relevant to their field of study. The department will also support the Institutes in planning and monitoring technology transfer to and from industry.
A strategic team of engineers and business economists with interdisciplinary experience will support the Institutes in the conception and development of their technical infrastructure and the application of specific technologies in their research activities. These two main focuses of the service department will target the fields of electronics, electrical engineering and medical technology in particular.
The service team will collaborate with researchers in the creation of a feasibility study and experimental system that will guarantee the distribution of interdisciplinary technological competence between the different institutes.
The collaborators of Technology Development will use the know-how of satellite data and Earth observation, telematics, and Information and Communication Technology to develop applications and systems in the fields of environmental technology, energy production and distribution, traffic and transportation, and security & health. This interdisciplinary approach will facilitate the creation of individual ad hoc solutions, leading, in a best-case scenario, to the development of prototypes destined for mass production.
